An Upcoming Tabla Artiste of fine calibre
- Grandson of the veteran Saxaphone artiste, Late Shri. Puttur Venkatappa Dogra, Suman started learning the basics of tabla under the guidance of his father, a flautist, Shri. Rajarathnam Devadiga, at a very tender age. Recognizing his talent, he was put into rigorous learning under various gurus for both tabla and mridangam.
- Suman has a vivid style of playing with impressive toning. He is a very versatile percussion artiste with a clear grasp of the complexities of playing the instrument.
- An exquisite tabla soloist, Suman is a B grade artiste of All India Radio. He has performed in numerous platforms all over India and is a recipient of multiple scholarships.
- Suman excelled in academics too as an MBA graduate but has chosen to take up music as a full-time profession.
AWARDS
A Competitive Performer
Having been appreciated by many, Suman is a recipient of numerous awards. Few among them are :
- Passed the Tabla Visharada Exam (Vidwath) from Akhila Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, Mumbai at the tender age of 16.
- 1st prize for three consecutive years in the Mangalore University Inter-collegiate Music competition.
- 3rd prize in SASTRA University competition, Tanjavur in 2010.
- Represented Mangalore University at the South Zone Youth Festival Competition for three consecutive years in Calicut, Mysore and Tanjavur universities respectively.
- 3rd prize in VTU inter-collegiate state level youth festival 2012.
- Participated in Music competitions held by Akashvani, Pratibha Karanji, Kannada and Culture Dept, Kala Prathibotsava etc.

Scholarships
Suman is a recipient of the CCRT Scholarship from the Central Govt of India.
He is also a scholarship holder of the Kannada and Culture Department in Karnataka.

Talent in the bloodline
- Being the grandson of veteran Late. Shri. Venkatappa Dogra who was the pioneer in adapting Carnatic classical music to the saxophone instrument, Suman has been an interested learner from his childhood. His father tutored him in the basics of the tabla while he later moved onto rigorous learning under various gurus.
- At the age of 9, Suman started learning tabla from Guru. Shri. N V Moorthy, Chennai.
- After grasping the basics, he further learnt under Guru. Shri. Chandrakanth Gadkar, Karwar as a resident student at his gurukul.
- Simultaneously, he developed interest in the Carnatic percussion instrument and started learning Mridangam initially from Shri. Vishweshwar Bhat and is currently pursuing the finer nuances under the guidance of Vid. Trichy K R Kumar, Mangalore.
PRESTIGIOUS PERFORMANCES
Performances across India and Abroad
- Suman has performed throughout Karnataka as an accompanist for various concerts of Hindustani Classical Vocal, Instrumental, Devotional, Light Music, Carnatic classical and Fusion.
- He has travelled across India giving shows at prestigious platforms in Mt. Abu – Rajasthan, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Mysuru, Bengaluru, Dharawad, Bagalkot, Karwar, Chennai ,Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Mantralayam, Goa and so on.
- He has also performed in Dubai as part of an International Tour and especially DUBAI DEVADIGA SANGHA , 25TH CELEBRATION program.
